Jordan Zaslow Helps Women ‘Achieve Real Equity’

A conversation with Jordan Zaslow, Executive Director of Women for the Win

What does your job entail? Women For The Win exists to support female candidates who are running for office in tough races across the country. My main focus is on making sure that the team has everything they need to do their best work, and that our candidates and campaigns have everything they need to reach voters. I also oversee all of our creative work, so that ranges from the social media posts we put out multiple times a day to the large-scale campaign ads we produce to help our candidates share their messages with as many voters as possible.

What’s your inspiration? As of November 6th, 2020, women still make up only 23% of U.S. representatives in our government. Keep in mind, women account for 51% of the U.S. population. So it’s troubling that so many of the decision makers in Washington are not actually representative of their constituency, but are expected to craft legislation on behalf of everyone. It’s important to the Women For The Win team that the courageous women who have taken on the challenge of running for and representing us in office have the resources they need to take on that fight. The hope is, we will help these women win seats in our governing bodies and ultimately achieve real equity.

What’s a time that you got knocked down and came back? In March, right before everything shut down due to COVID-19, Women For The Win was deep in planning phases on a number of exciting pieces of campaign content for some incredible candidates. Many of those production plans required big groups of people and production conditions that would no longer be considered safe for our candidates and creative teams. We took a few beats to consider our options. Rather than completely pausing our efforts, we decided to spend the subsequent months working on new, COVID-safe, initiatives to help support our candidates. I’m extra proud of the work we did in that period. It showed we could continue to be productive, creative, and helpful even in the most chaotic and uncertain times. I’m proud that we kept our mission at the forefront throughout that chaotic moment in history.
